The Definitive Guide
What is
Hyathlon?
The new discipline born from the fusion of Hyrox and Triathlon, officially recognized by World Triathlon in October 2025.
On October 18, 2025, at the World Triathlon Congress in Wollongong, Australia, 112 national federations voted to officially recognize Fitness Racing. For the first time, Hyrox and triathlon athletes share the same federation framework. A new era of hybrid endurance sport began.
The Format
8 runs. 8 stations.
The clock never stops.
Run 1 km, complete a functional workout station. Repeat 8 times. Every HYROX race worldwide follows the exact same format — that's what makes it globally comparable.
Total: 8 km running + 8 functional stations. Average finish time: 70–90 min (Open division).
The Numbers (2025)
Divisions
Race your way.
Standard weights. Designed for all fitness levels. Where most people start.
Heavier weights. For elite competitors chasing world rankings.
Teams of two, alternating stations. Twice the strategy.
Teams of four, each completing two stations. Pure team effort.
October 2025
Everything changed.
Before the vote, HYROX operated independently — no federation governance, no anti-doping testing, no pathway to the Olympics. After Wollongong, everything changed.
Fitness Racing now falls under World Triathlon — the same body that governs Olympic triathlon. That means WADA anti-doping standards, certified coaches and officials, and sanctioned competitions across 112 member nations.
The community's target? Brisbane 2032.
Getting Started
You're closer than you think.
From Running
You already have the cardio base. Focus on functional strength — sled work, farmers carry, wall balls — and build grip endurance. Rowing and SkiErg technique will save you minutes.
From CrossFit
You already have the strength. Build running volume up to a comfortable 8K at race pace. Focus on pacing — 8 rounds is a marathon, not a sprint. HYROX weights differ from CrossFit.
From Triathlon
You have the endurance engine. Add functional movements — sled push/pull, lunges with weight, upper body power for wall balls and SkiErg. No bike, no swim, but intense.
779,000+ athletes finished in 2025. 1.3 million projected for 2026. The hybrid athlete is no longer a niche.
